Reflections:
Leading Lines:
Describe: What do you see?
I see some clouds in the distance and a land mass in the distance also. My eyes also venture to the life ring on the end of the dock. The photo didn't really have an emotional impact on me. I just kind of saw the photo and thought of how dreary the weather looks.
Analyze: How is the work organized?
The work is organized in a simple photo with a dock in the middle leading the eye down to the water and end of the dock. The values are very nice wight the blacks and whites. The main focal point is the middle of the frame.
Interpret: What is the artist trying to communicate?
I'm trying to communicate the value in having a focal point for the image and not being too busy. The aspects that led me to this conclusion is the fact that there isn't a lot going on and I don't want there to be. The changes I could make to make it stronger is having a more pronounced point that is leading the eyes.
Judge: What do you think of the work?
I don't think this is an unsuccessful piece of photography, but I wish I took another with a more pronounced focal point and a little less crooked.
Rule of Thirds:
Describe: What do you see?
I see people sailing a boat. The boat is at one side and the mark is at the other side. Both are on opposite lines and not in the middle if the frame. The photo had some emotional impact. It was windy and was probably very intense sailing.
Analyze: How is the work organized?
The work is organized using the grid to line up the boat and mark on opposite lines. The image, as stated before, is the use of the rule of thirds. This breaks up the photo and doesn't put focus on the middle of the photo, rather the whole photo.
Interpret: What is the artist trying to communicate?
I'm trying to communicate that by having the focus on the side rather than the middle, you see the bigger picture and more of what is happening. For instance, if I had the boat in the center, than I wouldn't be able to see the mark that they are going to. I think that it is a strong message.
Judge: What do you think of the work?
I think that the photo was successful because I captured the boat in an intense moment about the round the mark and had it set up close to the two lines and not centered.
Simplify:
Describe: What do you see?
In the photo, I see the sun setting and an array of different shades of yellows and reds and oranges. I also see the moon above the sun. The photo did have an emotional effect on me. I felt calm because sunsets are very pretty. It also made me feel very warm inside.
Analyze: How is the work organized?
The work is organized with the sun as the main focus with its rays protruding from the sun. The image is analogous and warm. But, you also have the coolness at the top where it is still a steel blue and the sun hasn't reached that yet.The cropping does support the image and I like how the black of the out lie of the trees and stuff is at the bottom of the photo. The photo is for the most part focused in the center, but the sun is a little off center but not the rule of thirds.
Interpret: What is the artist trying to communicate?
I'm trying to communicate the value of watching a sunset every once and a while. Getting out and feeling the power and beauty of Mother Nature.
Judge: What do you think of the work?
I think that this was a successful photo. It wasn't a busy photo with no focus on something. The focus was clearly on the sun and it setting.
Asymmetry:
Describe: What do you see?
I see two cacti. One of them is smaller than the other and slightly more of a round shape. The other is taller and more of an oval shape. The photo didn't have an emotional impact on me. Starting to believe I'm emotionless.
Analyze: How is the work organized?
The work is up close and focuses on the two cacti in the photo. There is shade over the two cacti form something not shown in the picture. The shade kind of messes up the photo for me in a way. I wish I got it from a different angle, but this was the only way I could show the both of them the best way. The cacti aren't in the center of the photo, but rather onion either side.
Interpret: What is the artist trying to communicate?
I'm trying the communicate that not all cacti are the same and that they can be different sizes. I think this is conveyed well.
Judge: What do you think of the work?
The image was successful because they are different sizes and that is easily seen in the photo.
Pattern:
Describe: What do you see?
I see what looks to be like plastic wicker weaved into each other. It is worn because the color goes from a dark brown/black to a light brown/white. No emotional impact on me.
Analyze: How is the work organized?
The image is filling the frame with the pattern and starts the blur the further away it is. There are no other confusing objects in the photo.
Interpret: What is the artist trying to communicate?
I don't really think there is an underlain message to the photo. I mean I liked the angle of the photo and the way it looked. I liked how everything was intertwined with each other and I guess that is the message. It's that everything is connected.
Judge: What do you think of the work?
The image was successful because it shows a pattern.
Symmetry:
Describe: What do you see?
When I see this photo, I see two openings with a pole/cement area in the middle. There are bars on the sides of it. The emotional impact when I see this, is trapped. Is see the metal bars of the gate and think jail, but I also see a way out and that there is hope.
Analyze: How is the work organized?
The photo is organized by having a straight on view of it and getting the main focus of it having symmetry by the open spaces being the same. The image has whites and blacks in it an okay values. I think the photo could have a little more focus on it.
Interpret: What is the artist trying to communicate?
I'm trying to communicate that it may look like jail and feel like jail, but there is an opening to great opportunities and making something out of it.
Judge: What do you think of the work?
I think it was successful, but could shave had some improvements on the lighting and the way it was set up.
Fill the Frame:
Describe: What do you see?
I see the inside of a flower. There are purples, pinks, yellows, and blacks. There are also specks of dirt and stuff on the petals and the circle part of it(whatever that's called). The photo shows clarity to what the flower looks like up close and it really cool. It makes me happy.
Analyze: How is the work organized?
The image fills the frame. I has bright colors in it. The image is organic and not geometric in any way. The cropping supports the image because it doesn't have and leaves or anything in the background to distract the focus from the flower.
Interpret: What is the artist trying to communicate?
The message of this photo is to take a closer look at everything and you will see something new every time. It's like reading a book over and over again. Every time you reread it, you pick up something new.
Judge: What do you think of the work?
The photo was very successful and I was very proud with the way it came out. It filled the frame and had very nice colors.
Simplify:
Describe: What do you see?
I see what looks like a wall with a stenciled on painting of R2D2 and CP30. It makes me happy because it makes me think of Star Wars and how awesome it is.
Analyze: How is the work organized?
The work is simple and focuses on the painting in the middle of the frame. It is geometric because someone painted it. It has an okay range of values. It has a cream color and a darker cream color.
Interpret: What is the artist trying to communicate?
I am trying to communicate that not everything has to be busy to make it art. It could be a simple stencil of something classic like R2D2 and CP30. You don't have to have like 50 colors and all kinds of unnecessary stuff in a painting.
Judge: What do you think of the work?
I think it was successful. I wish the wall was cleaner and that the painting was a little darker, but it was successful in portraying what it was supposed to.
Leading Lines:
Describe: What do you see?
I see my friend, Vanessa, at the bottom of the stairs. I also see the lines of the railing and the way the stars lead me down to her. I love having my friends incorporated in the photography and this was the perfect way to have that. It made me feel accomplished.
Analyze: How is the work organized?
The work focuses on the person at the bottom of the stairs in the middle of the top of the page. The cropping does support the image. The only confusing thing, is the foot because I had to crop someone out who was walking by. The image has a nice range of values. There are lots of different grays and whites and a few blacks.
Interpret: What is the artist trying to communicate?
I'm trying to communicate that the stairs lead you down and are tall. Didn't really have an underlying message to it. I just liked the way the stairs lead you down.
Judge: What do you think of the work?
The image was successful. It lead the eyes to the top of the page and bottom of the stairs.
Fill the Frame:
Describe: What do you see?
I see the eye of an animal and its brown/chestnut fur and whiskers and part of its ear. His eyes look sad in the photo and make me sad.
Analyze: How is the work organized?
The work focuses on his eye and his fur around his eye. You can see the emotion through his eye that he is begging/sad. His eyebrow is slightly turned up at one end and down at the other. This is organic because it is an animal. The cropping supports the image and doesn't have anything distracting in the background.
Interpret: What is the artist trying to communicate?
I'm trying to communicate that everything has feelings, especially animals. They plead us and we keep them locked up in our house during the day and we train them the way we want. We don't think about how they feel and I think that needs to be taken into consideration more.
Judge: What do you think of the work?
This image was very successful and I'm absolutely in love with it. It fills the frame with fur, but also has his eye that breaks it up a little and adds some different color.
